Dr Niamh Chapman was invited to give an overview of AUS HEARTS at the National Hypertension Summit held in Adelaide on Tuesday 9 December. Niamh’s presentation titled “Implementing the HEARTS Package in Regional and Remote Australia” highlighted the hypertension challenge in Western NSW and the significant impact AUS HEARTS can have in regional and remote communities. AUS HEARTS aligns with the Hypertension Taskforce roadmap to achieving 70% blood pressure control in Australia by 2030 through the following priority areas:
- Adopting the World Health Organisation’s HEARTS Technical package
- Improving detection through systematic screening in general practice
- Implementing a team-based care approach to detection and treatment
- Treating to target of 130/80mmHg
We’re grateful to have Prof Alta Schutte, Co-Chair of the National Hypertension Taskforce, on the AUS HEARTS project as a Chief Investigator.
