Niamh Chapman

Dr Niamh Chapman is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Sydney, where she leads the Health Equity and Hypertension research team in the Faculty of Medicine and Health. Niamh's research focuses on adapting the way we deliver health services for high blood pressure management, to better meet the needs of patients and healthcare providers.

Catherine Hawke

Catherine Hawke

Professor Catherine Hawke (MBBS, FFPH) is a public health physician dedicated to reducing rural health inequalities. She recently retired from her position as Head of the School at the University of Sydney’s School of Rural Health (Orange/Dubbo). From 2013-2023, Catherine served as a founding chair of the Western NSW Health Research Network (WHRN), to drive research and partnerships to improve rural health.

Alta Schutte

Professor Alta Schutte is the Theme Lead of Cardiac, Vascular and Metabolic Medicine at UNSW Sydney and is the Co-Director of the Global Cardiovascular Program at the George Institute. Alta leads several randomised hypertension trials in Australia and globally and, as Co-Chair of Australia’s Hypertension Taskforce, focuses on implementing initiatives that will transform hypertension control in Australia.

Dean Picone

Dean Picone

Dr Dean Picone leads the Cardiovascular Monitoring Group in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at The University of Sydney. His research focuses on how to achieve the highest quality blood pressure measurements in different settings, to support management of hypertension. He has a keen interest in emerging technologies and identifying ways to increase access to health services.

Brendan McCormack

Brendan McCormack

Professor Brendan McCormack is Head of School and Dean at the Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery, Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney. A clinical nurse specialist in gerontology and dementia care, Brendan’s internationally recognised research focuses on person-centred healthcare, particularly the development of person-centred cultures, practices, and processes.

Shiva Raj Mishra

Shiva Raj Mishra

Dr Shiva Raj Mishra is a Senior Research Fellow at the School of Medicine, Western Sydney University, and is based in the South Western Sydney Local Health District. Trained in epidemiology and health data science, his research focuses on health disparities, determinants of cardiovascular health, and public health interventions, particularly in socially and economically disadvantaged communities.

Dr Emily R Atkins is a Senior Research Fellow in Health Systems Science at the George Institute for Global Health and a Conjoint Senior Lecturer at UNSW Sydney. She has expertise in economic evaluation, cardiovascular trials, and linked data analysis, and her recent focus has been on the health economics of blood pressure lowering medicines.

Donald DiPette

Professor Donald DiPette is currently the Health Sciences Distinguished Professor at the University of South Carolina South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia, South Carolina. His major areas of research include the pharmacologic treatment of hypertension and the role of novel neuropeptides in the pathophysiology and treatment of hypertension and cardiovascular disease.

Andrew Moran

Andrew Moran

Dr Andrew Moran is a program director, researcher and primary care physician. He is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Columbia University and Chief of Hypertension Science at Resolve to Save Lives. Dr Moran’s chief interests are in hypertension control and cardiovascular disease prevention, with a focus on earlier life prevention and prevention in low- and middle-income countries.

Catherine Sanford

Catherine is a researcher at the Broken Hill University Department of Rural Health and a Research Fellow with AUS HEARTS. Her research centres on evaluating innovative models of care that improve health outcomes for rural communities. She has strong interests in health equity and chronic disease prevention, supported by diverse experience across clinical practice, health promotion, and rural health research.

Liz Halcomb

Professor Liz Halcomb is the Professor of Primary Health Care Nursing at the University of Wollongong. Liz’s research program focuses on team-based models of care, hypertension, chronic and complex conditions, lifestyle risk factor reduction and behaviour change, and primary care nursing workforce issues.

Sonali Gnanenthiran

Dr Gnanenthiran (MBBS, PhD, FRACP, FCSANZ) is a practising cardiologist at Concord Hospital and The George Institute. She has over 58 publications, 43 conference presentations, and >$18 million in research funding. Her work has been recognised internationally with awards from the American Heart Association and European Society of Cardiology.

Jaime Miranda

Professor J. Jaime Miranda is Head of School at Sydney School of Public Health, Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney. His work brings together epidemiological and health policy aspects of chronic non-communicable diseases in low- and middle-income countries, with a focus on obesity, hypertension, diabetes, and mental health.

Distinguished Professor Gregory Peterson is an academic pharmacist and Chair of the Human Research Ethics Committee at the University of Tasmania, and a practising pharmacist. He has been involved in and led many projects directed at improving patient outcomes, particularly relating to quality and safety of medicines use, in community, hospital and aged care sectors.

John Stevens

John Stevens is a former city engineer, stroke survivor and now active consumer advisor. He is an advocate of consumer voices in health research, policy and programs, to provide lived experience of the impact of stroke on survivors and their loved ones. John is a Stroke Safe Speaker for the Stroke Foundation and the inaugural Chair of the Lived Experience Group of the Menzies Cardiovascular Research Flagship, University of Tasmania.

Karice Hyun

Dr Karice Hyun is an Adjunct Senior Research Fellow and Senior Statistician at the University of Sydney and Senior Statistician at the ANZAC Research Institute, Concord Hospital. Her work, which includes national and state-wide linked data projects, medical record extracts and major national trials and registries, informs health delivery and aims to improve primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease through translational research.

Gautam Satheesh

Gautam Satheesh is a research associate at The George Institute for Global Health, pursuing his PhD at the University of Sydney. Gautam’s research focuses on improving access to essential medicines in resource-limited settings, strengthening primary care for managing cardiovascular diseases, and advancing team-based hypertension care through implementation and policy research.

Catherine Stephen

Dr Catherine Stephen is a Registered Nurse and Senior Lecturer in the School of Nursing at the University of Wollongong. She is one of five national Postdoctoral Research Fellows in the National Multidisciplinary Primary Care Research, Policy and Advocacy Consortium and is based within the PROACT Research Group. Her work supports a national program strengthening team-based primary care and improving blood pressure outcomes for people living with chronic conditions.

Alison is the Senior Program Officer for AUS HEARTS. As an MPH graduate, she has a strong interest in health equity and improving population health outcomes. She has managed projects in a wide range of sectors and settings, including primary care, health promotion, cardiovascular research, conference organising, and business operations.

Anna Thompson

Anna Thompson

Anna is a Senior Research Officer with the AUS HEARTS project. She is based in Orange, NSW, at the University of Sydney’s School of Rural Health. Anna brings experience in health services research, evaluation of rural virtual care models, and a strong clinical background from her work as a psychologist.
